Phoenix Air to Deliver Contractor Air EW Services to US Navy

By Richard Scott

Phoenix Air Group Inc (Cartersville, GA) has secured a $165.7 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to deliver airborne electronic warfare (EW) threat simulation services to the US Navy.

Awarded by the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC) Aircraft Division on June 28, the four-year deal covers the provision of contractor air services for the replication of adversary EW effects. According to NAWC, the contract procures “flight minutes” using 10 contractor-owned, contractor-operated aircraft for “simultaneous presentations” consisting of six for the East coast and four for the West coast.

Under the scope of the contract, Phoenix Air Group will simulate a range of airborne threats to train, test and evaluate shipboard and aircraft squadron weapon systems operators and aircrew on fleet air defense and counter potential enemy EW and electronic attack operations. Additionally, the service will deliver a variety of training venues, from basic “schoolhouse” air intercept control training to large multinational exercises as well as small single unit training exercises, including target tow missions supporting the Navy.

Strategic Airborne Operations JV – a joint venture between Aery Aviation and Mountain Aviation LLC – currently provides stand-off jamming services to the US Navy under the High Endurance Electronic Warfare Jet (HEEWJ) contract awarded in May 2020. HEEWJ is delivered by a mixed fleet of mission-adapted Learjet and Gulfstream IV aircraft.
