AOC Japan Chapter 12th EW Research Group Conference
The AOC Japan Chapter hosted the 12th EW Research Group Conference on June 5 in person and online hybrid at Information Technology R&D Center, Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Kamakura. The event was co-sponsored by Technical Committee on Space, Aeronautical and Navigational Electronics (SANE) of the IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers) Japan.
The EW Research Group of the AOC Japan Chapter holds an annual conference to promote the exchange of new ideas and information in the fields of EW and related fields. This year’s event was the largest ever, boasting 80 in-person and 100 online attendees from Japanese industry, academia and government.
AOC President Brian “Hinks” Hinkley opened the meeting with a video message of welcome.
Condolences were expressed to former AOC Japan Chapter President Shigeo Kazama, who passed away in January.
The first EW keynote talk was on “EW in Ukraine – Advantages and Pitfalls of Fast Evolving EMSO Technology” by Mr. Rene Kanayama (SSSCIPU; State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine). The second EW keynote talk was on “Multi-National EW Partnership – Considering Regional Security Environment surrounding Japan” by Col. Tomohiko Kakuta (ASO/Mod; Air Staff Office/ Japan Ministry of Defense). There were keynotes on radar and satellite as well.
The technical sessions included twelve presentations of EW, Radar, Positioning, AI, Space, Satellite, Electromagnetic and Antenna, presented by researchers, engineers. Lively discussions were also held.
At the conference, the Japanese version (Tokyo Denki Univ. Press) of “EW101 to 105” (originally by David Adamy, Artech House) was presented and sold at the publisher’s booth.
