HENSOLDT Introduces ASMS for Assured Spectrum Access
HENSOLDT South Africa introduces its Automated Spectrum Management System (ASMS) at Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) 2026. The integrated capability is designed to help defence forces and spectrum authorities plan, coordinate, assign and monitor the use of the electromagnetic spectrum more efficiently.
The electromagnetic spectrum is essential to modern military communications, sensing, command and control and electronic warfare. At the same time, it is a limited and increasingly congested operational resource shared by military, civilian and commercial users.
Defence spectrum authorities must coordinate requirements across services, units, equipment, locations and activities while complying with national regulations and protecting sensitive information. Fragmented systems and manual processes can result in delays, conflicting assignments, inefficient spectrum use and an increased risk of interference.
ASMS addresses this challenge by bringing the complete spectrum management lifecycle into one controlled environment. It supports spectrum planning, application processing, spectrum engineering, spectrum enforcement and spectrum monitoring.
Automated, rules-based workflows assess applications according to defined criteria such as intended use, duration, location, applicant role and equipment type. The system also maintains an up-to-date record of authorised spectrum use, providing greater visibility of who may transmit, where, when and under which conditions.

Enabling coordinated CEMA
Within the broader Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) environment, ASMS provides an essential spectrum management foundation. It supports the coordination of operational users and capabilities by improving visibility of spectrum requirements, assignments, restrictions and authorised use.
The system can support defence operations, training, exercises, equipment testing and experimentation. Role-based access helps protect sensitive organisational, equipment and location information while enabling coordination across services – and between defence and civilian spectrum authorities.
Developed by HENSOLDT South Africa’s GEW business unit, ASMS builds on the company’s extensive experience in spectrum monitoring, spectrum management and electronic warfare.
