Dixie Crow Chapter, Partners Award $30,000 for Middle School Drone Program

The Dixie Crow Chapter, 21st Century Partnership and Georgia Power have presented Houston County Schools with a $30,000 check to fund a new drone program across the district’s middle schools.
The initiative began last summer when the Dixie Crow Chapter asked Lindsey Levie, a Technology Student Association adviser at one of the county’s middle schools, to convene STEM leads from multiple Houston County middle schools to develop a county-wide project with lasting impact.
Through the joint sponsorship, each of the seven Houston County middle schools with engineering programs will receive eight drone kits. Students will build, rebuild, program and fly the drones in competitions each year – with the long-term goal of competing in drone soccer tournaments.
