Three US National Guard space EW units took part in Exercise Cobra Gold 2025, the 44th iteration of the joint US-Thailand event, which was held from Feb. 26 – March 8. The 109th and 150th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadrons from Hawaii and the 216th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron from California formed part of a Total Force team deployed to Thailand for the exercise. The Guard units brought two systems to Cobra Gold: Honey Badger and Kraken. The Honey Badger system monitors satcom downlinks and performs overwatch of critical signals in case of electromagnetic interference. The Kraken system detects signals from UAS. In addition to the US and Thai forces, other nations participating in Cobra Gold included Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.

“This is the first time my unit has supported this exercise and we’re slowly getting more Space Force [units]integrated into this and other exercises as well,” said Lt Gabrielle Zamojski, 216 EWS, space operator, in a DOD news release. “We’re a new branch, and we’re plugging into more exercises to highlight our strategic value to our allies and partners.” – JED Staff
