Australian electromagnetic warfare (EW) sensor assurance specialist Mellori Solutions (South Nowra, NSW) has unveiled a marinized, container-based test and evaluation system intended to assure the performance of EW sensors and train their command teams.

Known as Blue Jay Horizon, the system is designed to replicate dynamic, real-world electromagnetic threat environments in order to build confidence in both EW operators and equipment. Blue Jay Horizon made its public debut in November at the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition 2025 in Sydney.

Housed in a specialized 10-ft. ISO-certified secure container, Blue Jay Horizon can be deployed on fixed ranges, shore sites, or naval vessels (being fully operable up to Sea State 4 and stowable to Sea State 6). The container incorporates a retractable roof that shields sensitive electronics from hostile environments when not in use and allows rapid deployment of the payload systems during operation. Inside, a software-defined RF architecture drives wideband generation of RF signals from 20 MHz to 40 GHz for open-air electromagnetic stimulation of radar and communication receivers.

Chess Dynamics (Horsham, UK), as subcontractor to Mellori Solutions, is providing its latest OMEGA high-performance gyro-stabilized positioning pedestal to the Blue Jay Horizon program. Offering a payload capacity of up to 500kg, the high-torque OMEGA positioner has been designed to deliver the mechanical stability and positioning accuracy required for use at sea, maintaining performance under wind loading, vibration, and platform motions such as pitch and roll. – R.
