Elbit Systems (Haifa, Israel) has debuted a new expendable active RF decoy designed to provide airborne protection against radar-guided air-to-air and surface-to-air threats.

Part of the company’s Self Protection Electronic Attack and Reconnaissance (SPEAR) product family, the Nano SPEAR countermeasure device combines a digital receiver, a DRFM-based jammer and an advanced techniques generator.

Weighing less than 2 pounds, the Nano SPEAR decoy is ejected using a standard countermeasure dispenser system. Once launched, the decoy functions independently to lure hostile radar-guided missiles away from their intended target.

According to Elbit, Nano SPEAR can operate in conjunction with an existing self-protection system, or as a standalone ‘smart’ countermeasure.
